Trouble free biking!....doooohhhh!
 

Well just got bike back from having a new gear shift return spring fitted and went for a little hoon yesterday.All appeared fine.
Went for an even longer hoon today in baking heat.On the way back home I was stopped at some lights, the driver of a car next to me was admiring the bike,(which I took in my stride naturally! :lol: ) then the guy starts trying to catch my attention. He was pointing out the fact that water was running off the bottom of the fairing. I did not give it much thought until I got to my garage a few minutes later.With the bike on it's stand there was literally a torrent of water running out! Oh dear..I naturally thought to myself,(well it is Sunday and so real thoughts left for you to interpret!)
Sh*t* I am thinking what now?? Dont tell me I have to call the dealer in Malaga and go through some annoying procedure to get this looked at! I decided to bite the bullet and found the fairing extremely well planned and easy to remove. The expansion tank was completely empty,oh flip! Topped up tank and ran motor and located problem! The small hose coming off the water pump housing was completey loose at both ends.In loose I mean the jubilee clips were spinning around freely! :shock: :shock:

Anyways I topped up again with water after tightening every hose I could see and ran her up again.All appears well now! Pick up some anti freeze tomorrow and run some of the water off to put the right mix in.

I am extremely annoyed and big time relieved to be honest. I must say though the exercise did allow me to acquaint myself with the locations of a lot of components that are usually hidden from view,so a worthwhile exercise. :shock: 8)

Its a common fault with Italian bikes [They break down] Only joking and jealous Glad it was only something simple but it could have been a very expensive oversight,perhaps it might be worthwhile checking all nuts bolts and connections as it could save you a lot of heartache

Why were they loose?
Was your mechanic fiddling in there?

Well the mechanic would have been looking very close to the water pump when adjusting the clutch,would have done no harm just to finger test things whilst there would it? or if it was already loose he could not have failed to see wet gunge under the engine and the engine casing having dry residue from the fluid on it.
Really thinking about it he MUST have undone it and not re fastened...W*anker! :shock: :shock:

I think you should take it back to the dealer and get them to check it over in the light of what happened.There may have been some overheating damage and you need to have registered a problem with the dealer in case they are liable for consequent repairs.

did you have the forethought to vid the problem before you fixed it :?: I probably would not have but it may strengthen your case should you ever need to take it further.

what were the guages showing at the time :?:

Yeah it does sound crazy to have to use anti freeze here in Spain but there you go!

Fortunately the temp gauge did not rise to any alarming levels,(if it had I would have stoopped immediately) and so I guess the bike did not actually run completely dry whilst I was out on it. This is indicated by the trail of the last litre or so on the garage floor.
I guess then some indication of the efficiency of the cooling system for it to keep to around normal working temps even with fluid gushing out! The radiator fan had not even kicked in,(not sure at what temp this happens actually)

Just think the potential damage that could have been done by a 40 centimo jubilee clip not being fastend properly! :shock: :cry:

It's also corrosion inhibitor - I've seen alloy coolant passages literally eaten away from the inside out on engines with wrong / insufficient antifreeze. So don't skimp on it no matter how warm the weather ! [-X
