car lighter adaptor thingys
hi . . . ive seen some bikes with some car lighter socket adaptor thingys (anyone with their proper name ?) and looks like something i could do with.
just wondering where do you get them from ? (i tried ebay - but without knowing their proper name . . . i got nowhere) and are they easy to fit ? cheers guys. |
Bought mine from a Maplins shop and comes with a waterproof "plug" for when not in use, was around £3-4
|
cool, so how did u fit it ?
|
Lots of places like Farnell or Maplin do them. Also some dealers like Triumph and BMW, others I expect. Note that I think both Triumph and BMW ones are called Powerlet and you need an adapter for your 'adaptor' with those unless you have a piece of powerlet equipped kit. No biggie in any case.

Was going to fit it to mine to use with my Optimate charger (easier than faffing around with the connection under the seat  )
And yes, it fits straight on the battery posts |
I have my VFR loaded up with a couple of these sockets to power my GPS and stuff in my tank bag. Check Powerlet

cool, got myself a lighter socket thingy from maplin, some connectors and some wires, and wired a fusebox into the posotive lead thats going to run to the battery.
just one question . . . what size fuse should i use ? the gps power cable already hasa built in fuse which is a 2A 250v fuse how does that translate into volts ? the power supply of the GPS is input 5v 2A does this mean i need to put a 5v fuse in ? |
