Sticker removal... not the usual

Has anyone removed the stickers from a 6 year old bike? I have read loads of threads about removing 'em but as my bike is quite old I am worried they may leave a mark the paint/laquer? I bought the bike used, and left them on because it made me feel like it was a new bike :-({|= :-({|= :-({|= (and they make me feel a little bit dangerous)

Is it to late to take 'em off? :?

I took some stickers off mine that had been there since it was new, there was an "SV650S" on the back right but not the back left, didnt look right! I just used white spririt, lots of elbow grease and gave it a good wax afterwards.

I took some off 6 months into having it (as well as some on the first day).
Heat them up (park outside on a sunny day worked better on my -admitedly black- bike, than a hairdryer), peel slowly and use goo-remover to clean off the residue.

Dunno about 6 years though  :)

I imagine you could find that where the colour the rest of the colour has faded slightly due to exposure to sun, whereas the area under the sticker looks new.

I took them off my 99 3 years ago & I'm glad I did, in fact I took the front one off the nose fairing this week and it's fine. Use silicon spray or WD40 to disolve remaining glue.

I used some special chemical spray that I got from a buddy of mine that works at a detailing shop ... just make sure its not corrosive to the paint...

also a heat gun would help the removal and don't use a knife or razor because it will leave scatches. Just be patient and use your fingernails.

when I peeled my stickers off, I found it was best to use a very dry finger to rub the glue into a ridge which could be peeled off, then WD40 for the last bits - was easier than just using WD and a rag ( tried both methods )

Fingernails have my vote too

Before you attack them, gently heat them with a hair-dryer. This will soften the sticker and the glue. You may well find you can then peel them off cleanly, just leaving a dirty mark round the edges. Then use a gentle solvent to remove the residue. I'm wary of WD40 on paint - I've seen damage to paintwork on a car caused by WD40 or similar. Meths will do the job and you can drink what you don't use. Oh just me then?

Cheers guys,

I almost had a go at whipping the warning sticker of my tank (yes its still there  ) but I was put off by the thought of leaving a dark patch in the paint

:?

Mine did leave a dark patch when I removed them, but it faded very quickly, you can't see where they were now.
