Fitting a Pyramid Hugger
 

Now then,

just a quick bit of advice from those in the know would be really appreciated.....I am about to fit a second hand pyramid hugger. Have I any chance of doing this with the rear wheel still in or will it have to come out to allow me to remove the little mud flap that sits in front of the rear shock?

If its the one without the chain guard then i have the same one.

You will need to paddock it up and remove the rear wheel and un screw the little mud flap from the swingarm then slide in your new hugger, slip the cable ties through, tighten, i reckon they are best with the tabs facing down as they seen less likely to slip round. Then snip the ends off, put the wheel back on and bobs your uncle fanny your aunt no more crud splats on your shock or linkage underneath.

Of course if your bike is one of those silly sharpies then it may well be different :lol:

Thanks for the advice...I thought that I had better make sure as I'm known at my local dealers as "another one of those have a go heroes"...I usually end up going in to have it put it right after I have been tinkering with it!

You can do it without removing the wheel- or at least I can! It's fiddly to remove the crap flap though. I just put the hugger on the wheel, basically, then rolled it around into position.

Us Scots must be a lazy breed cause I left the wheel on too (it takes a little manovering but it does go on)

It's not so much getting the hugger in as getting the crap flap off....what sort of spanners are you using to access the bolt? It seems like a really tight squeeze to get in there with a socket :?

Fitted a new Pyramid hugger just last weekend.

Didn't remove the wheel (in fact the instructions supplied are all based on the wheel staying on, so it didn't even occur to me!).

Might sound obvious but the little flap thing is (slightly!) easier to get at when the original chain guard is removed.

Can remember it was a little fiddly but not overly so. Used a standard socket and just laid down on the ground next to bike and accessed via left hand side over the chain.

Just used a socket and wobble bar myself... Slightly awkward, but easier than removing the wheel IMO.

ahhh! I hadn't thought of that! I'll give it a go and see if taking the chain guard off makes a differance. I might also go for a smaller socket drive as I was using a 1/4" drive 10mm socket.
