Question for all you IT/Law/Police boffins out there....

I read on the PROLASER III website that the range for this instrument is 1000 feet.

When i was stopped the other day:

The caught me at 1068 feet? How reliable is the laser gun outside of its range? :-k

There was a case in Scotland where a bloke with an imported Subaru got nicked at 120 or such. An independant garage later confirmed that the jap import was restricted to about 96mph or something.

Not sure if it helps but there have been cases thrown out with the prolaser III.

you need proper legal representation. look at pepipoo and contact one of the recommended solicitors

Kind of academic ain't it, considering you were stupid enough to try and outrun them.

Had you behaved more responsibly, you may have been able to get off on a technicality.

They have no other evidence apart from the laser gun, thats inaccurate.

It was in my best interest to try and outrun them, if i lose my license i lose my job, therefore im screwed. My own fault i know, but none the less, it was a case of all or nothing.

I tried, and failed. Besides, if i wanted to really incrimiate myself i could have kept going through the village of ingleton, but im not a complete **** head, 30 still means 30... highspeed pursuit or not. Im not a career criminal, and am not going to blast through a village where kids could be playing, just to get away from a speeding charge.

Dont tar me with the same brush as a car theif who would have just ploughed on regardless.

there was another case of a guy the police tried to prosecute for doing something like 125 in a 1.4 auto punto. this guy was a law student and got the car indepedently tested at bruntingthorpe and unsuprisingly the test driver only got about 100 out of it

i read in the paper that if the speedgun catches a solid object like a wall instead of the car when the officer moves the gun to track the vechile the reading is in fact takern off two diffrent places on the wall and can read a much higher speed. i'm not sure if this is true or i have explained it proplerky though

I think you should just accept the punishment as you know you were speeding and running from the police. Trying to get off and blaming equipment and the police is quite weak, IMO.

If they claim you was doing 96mph and you find out that the margin of error is 10% for these guns then you could in theory have be doing almost 10mph less but I still think you are looking at a ban even if you factor in such a large margin of error. So you would be able to say in court that you was 'only' doing 86mph and not 96 but its still quite a bit over the limit.

If you admitted in words, confirming to them after being caught, that you was doing 96mph then it may be pointless trying to find out how acurate these guns are. They will have your statement at the scene in writing I guess.

I have heard that the Police are 'HOT' for bikes around Devils Bridge looking for illegal cans and plates.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment; The Pro Laser 3 is used in the UK extensively. It has a range limit which has by GYKD's account been exceeded, incidentally IIRC in several other countries the Prolaser 3 has been ruled as unsitable for speed measurement on bikes as the target area is insufficient.

GYKD has every right to fight his case, the fact that he is possibly the biggest prat in the world does not diminish that right whatso ever.

Having said all that his chances of winning infront of the magistrates is miniscule so he will need very deep pockets to fight as he will have to pay up front for re[presentation all the way to appeal if his argument is to be heard. Having said that if he engages the right solicitor/barristor and they make it clear that his case will be taken to appeal the CPS may capitulate under the guise that the prosecution is not in the public interest, in other words a precident could be set that they would not like.

Now as to the attempt to evade them, big mistake as now if he does fight they will make reference to that in their evidence.
