Clutch Help

I'm new to this biking lark (bought SV650s K3) and in a desperate bid to avoid lining the pockets of my local dealer to much, try to do as much as possible myself. However have run into a slight problem. When travelling along in 3rd, open the throttle, engine revs, not much go. I've adjusted the clutch cables, but still having problems. Had a look in the official service manual and there is a nice picture telling you which screws etc to undo, but for the hapless amateur it doesn't tell you what to do next. Can anyone help to avoid a very slippy clutch and give me more go?

Cheapest solution....
I know it sounds silly but what revs are you changeing up at? Could you just be changeing up too early?

Sid Squid knows what he is talking about, but also I did mine from the manual. Read it first and get it straight in your head, then give it a go. I thought it was reasonably simple following the manual.
