Ohlins springs and spacers
 

Gah im annoyed now, I looked on JHS racing website and Harris performance and Harris sell the Ohlins springs. So I order the springs off them since they stock them. Phone up JHS racing later to get the preload caps and apparently they also stock Ohlins springs aswell! argh why not say so on your site?!

Anyway before i order the spacer and shim kit off JHS racing, since ive got a k1 I need to know what spacer length i need. I can wait till the springs arrive and measure then but what would be easier is if anyone here has ohlins and what size spacers they had?

Im assuming Ohlins only do one type of spring for the older models SV's, would this be correct?

Anyway any help would be cool.

You're correct that they only do one type of spring - I've recently paid for my forks to be upgraded.

I was told Ohlins only do one spring rate for our bikes and when I queried this I was told the air-gap and oil is what sets it for you and your style.

Can't help you on spacers though as I've also got cartridge emulators fitted.

The spring rate should be set for your weight and riding style.

Ohlins springs are a .80kilo spring which is a good compromise for most riders, the oil weight will change the damping but not the stiffness (i know more compression makes them harder but the same amount of travel will be used) and the airgap to change the travel/bump characteristics.

The more commonly raced bikes that Ohlins do springs for are available in various weights, but as the SV is not really recognised by them as a race bike that needs the range then a 'better than standard' spring is sufficient.

Racetech do a range of springs in all weights that may be needed, but these need to be fitted correctly with spacers to suit.

The Ohlin springs are the same length as your OEM springs. but in fitting adjusters you need to compensate for the longer length than the standard cap.

When Mr Fud (Suspension consultant to the Pennine Massive) did mine. He cut 11 mm off my existing spacers. Not that I am ever going to put the stock setup back on so it dont matter about cutting the original spacers

This might be too late for you, but I paid £4 less for the preload caps, spacers and blank washer at Suzuki RRP from a main dealer than JHS charges- and no postage costs either. They're the same parts too.
