Replacement rear tyre on K3 (new style) SV650
The standard tyre on my late 2003 / early 2004 SV650 (Dunlop 207 I think) has worn out. The front one is OK. I'm not hugely keen on the Dunlops and wondered about replacing the rear with a different tyre. Is that a bad thing to do? Should I just put the same back on the rear until the front is worn out then think about changing them?
Opinions from you knowledgable lot welcome! :D :?: Mat |
There are quite a few options, but most people will suggest you replace both the front and the rear at the same time. Generally you want a stickier tyre on the front.
The standard tyre is an OEM version of the Dunlop D220. The one you might buy from a tyre fitters will actually be a pretty good tyre, from what I've heard. |
The profiles should be similar, and it is good practice to get a rear tyre that is as sticky or LESS so, than the front. If you don't like the tyre, replace both.

Terribly sorry - didn't know there was such a thing being a bit of a newbie....

OK - Ive gone for a Pirelli Diablo Strada. Got it pretty cheap (£85) and had the shop fit it as part of the 4K service. Went for the Strada as I'm doing a big tour of the UK shortly so wanted a slightly harder tyre.
Service cost £230 including the tyre and sorting out a spongy front brake. Does that sound OK? |
