Question on Screen Fixings: Wheelnut Rubber gromets

How in gods name do these things work?

I'm talking about the two lower rubber gromets that go through the lower screen holes to somehow bolt the screen to the fairing.

I'm obviously missing the obvious, I've been putting them in wrong and need somebody to explain.

Yes I'm having a blond day.

First off if you take them out be prepaired to fight with them for the next 2 hours to get the dam things back in!!!

The rubber has a larger bit at the top, this sits above the fairing. The shaft of the rubber then has a rib on it, the screen sits between this and the fairing. At the end of the rubber there is a metal thread inside that squashes the rubber when tightened and thus holds your screen in place. (Am doing this from memory 2 months ago so I am ready to be corrected)

As for getting them back in I found getting them on the fairing first then attaching the screen was best. Wiggling them around with the bolt in the oposite end and lots of swearing also helped

If you try and push them through the hole, they expand. D'uh! Exactly what they are meant to do. I find if you thread the screw into them a couple of threads, then squirt with WD40, then push the screw instead of the rubber nut it goes in a piece of ****.
