Control units for Oxford heated grips -are they waterproof ?
I fitted some Oxford heated grips
Are the Control units waterproof ? The circuitry is embedded in resin but the ugly little control box (of very average design) , has a control knob (on front) and a cable entry point (on top) that both look like good points of entry for water. |
Yes they are have had mine fitted for the past four years on the bars without problem
|
I think mine was waterproof :D
Eventually the red light stopped working, so you couldn't tell if they were on or off except for the heat in your hands. And then the temp control knob packed up so they were either off or roasting  I'm undecided as to what make to get next time :? |
The control box is a disaster isn't it? But it does seem to be waterproof. One of these days I'm going to chop it and replace it with a switch, it's just too ugly to be allowed on my bike (it's more unsightly than the scratches)

Hey Northwind
If you fitted a switch, what would you do about temp level. ? Mine would be far too hot at full. (They seem to be best about 2 and 3 clicks up from low.) |
Mine are always on full or off... Winter is coming!
|
Fitted mine and found the lip around the controls held water and let it seep into the box, flattened my battery on a rainy day :(
