Tip for draining fuel tank
 

I know people have posted info on the site before about removing and draining the fuel tank, but I did it today and found a little tip that might help anyone doing it in the future.

Had a bit of a mare getting the tank off, cos I presumed fuel would leak out when I removed the pipes, FYI this is not the case. A little may come out of the pipes but that's all. Wish I knew this before I played twister in my back yard with the SV, a towel and a stool... hmmm anyway here's the tip

Get yourself one of those hand wash bottle tops. The one's you press down and it squirts out (Quote that if ya dare Number 1! :D ), I stole mine from the nearly empty rose scented handwash my better half keeps by the sink, but i'm sure you could use any variety you like. Make sure you run plenty of water through it and clean it first, then attach it to the vacuum pipe on the fuel tap, and connect another suitable pipe to the fuel outlet and run it into a container, like so...

the benefit of using this rather than sucking on the pipe is that, if you suck the pipe, then it will only squirt a bit (Quote that if ya dare Number 2! :D ) however with this clever doogit attached it holds the vacuum and lets the fuel flow out freely + you dont have to hold it, just one press and the vacuum is created, leaving you free to make a cuppa, shave the cat or create world peace, depending on the size of container you have. if you need to stop the flow just pull the pipe out of the vacuum attachment and the flow stops. easy peasy and squeezy.

Now all that remains to do is kick over the full petrol can (twice... yes twice!) and spill the fuel all over the yard + yourself, find out that your trainer soles melt on contact with petroleum and run all over the kitchen tiles making pretty shapes. This part of the procedure is optional but recommended.

Not really related to draining the fuel tank but those twin pipes look cool. Where did you get them from and are they available for a K5?

The cans are from Renegade, think they're based in London. Sure they do cans for the K5, they do other makes too. I have seen a website but cant remember the address right now. The cans I have are the Twin Titanium High Level Race Cans, complimented by the Renegade Induction Kit, all factory fitted. My neighbours love me, especially when I leave for work at 6am :twisted:
They also do carbon, stainless, single, twin, blah and yadda types to suit all tastes and budgets.

That's clever... I did the same with a Mityvac but if you don't have one, that's a superb alternative.

That would have been far too easy :lol:

I find that riding the bike helps to drain the tank, rather than leaving it in the garage and spending precious riding time polishing it :P
