150 for 4000 service is the normal or a knock?
hi guys
Just getting ready soon to go out and get me service 4k for me sv is this the norm £ 150 as the 4 k service, says only a oil change and a few inspections around the bike? yet they said to me ,the suszuki dealer... a couple of hours labour? so just checking with u guys is this the normal price? |
Seems to be what the guys round here charge. If you do it yourself it comes to about £20 and an hour or so!
It is an oil change, check the plugs, check hoses, check air filter, check brakes, check cable play, and chain. Check bolts and tread depth. Check coolant and brake fluid levels. Total cost is for oil, sump plug washer and oil disposal (if the council don't have a collection point) I have never known the plugs to out by 4,000 miles and as they get replaced at 7,500 probably don't need the attention Most of the checks tend to get covered every time you ride, so should be fine. It's money for old rope. Keep the dosh, log the service and take the hit on the resale value (it knocked £200 off the value of my old bike, but I have saved an awful lot over the 20,000 miles of the bikes life) |
good advise

Or you could get this lot from M&P for £29.99 Plus postage http://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=547500 No air filter though Mines gets one of these every 4000 miles, including the plugs. |
erm suzuki wont honour the warranty if you bike has been home serviced!. It can be done by a none suzuki dealer as long as the person doing the service is trained to do so. If you do it yourself and you have a problem with your engine then no go!. They need to see a copy of the service book now!.
And it also involves a few more things than is mentioned in the schedule - like TPS setup - throttle body balance and a plug in to the SDS software if the dealer has it to clear any fault codes stored in the ECU. |
I have just had my 4000 mile service ( Motorcycle Mart in Kidderminster)and it came to £117 so I must have got of lightly, they also noticed a nail in my rear tyre that id not seen, so the check was quite through.

just had mine last week it was £138.?? oil filter plugs check clean and lube chain etc
about right i got mine don at george whites in slough but get my tyres and sprokits don at Berkshire motorcycles |
If I put it in for the Suzuki 4,000 mile service and they put in a new oil filter I would be pleased to acept it as a gift. But as it is not on the schedule I would not expect to pay for it, as I would not have asked for it - the schedule does not specify the filter
