Harris paddock stand + R&G bobbins

Hi,

I have a Harris paddock stand, looking like the pic on the left in this link:

However, even with 2 people, I've not managed to get it up (hmm, maybe that sentance needs reworking, and detracts from the seriousness of the situation...). Basically, the thin part of the bobbins seems too fat to fit in the bracket thing.
It may be (almost 99% certain it is) just poor technique but for the life of me, I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Has anyone else got one of these and got any tips? Just in case it's important, it's an SV650s K5 (I know there are some year-specific R&G attachments).

Many thanks.

Is it the nylon R&G bobbins, not the netal ones? They don't work very well with my cheapy Bike-it stand either- the nylon is just barely thicker than the hooks. It works, but it chews up the bungs.

Yes, they're the black nylon ones.
Hmm, ok, well at least I know - thanks for your help

Just fitted R&G nylon items to my SV. The hooks on my micron stand might need widening for the same reason.

I also find that the rear number plate gets in the way, compared to my old sv, either the bobbins are further forward or the number plate gubbins sticks out further.

Ahh, it seems more than a localised issue.

I can't find any mention of Harris on the web - does anyone have an email address (or God forbid) a phone number I could use to contact them asking if they have any alternative brackets?

many thanks

This is common with most plastic bobbins, for them to be substantial enough they must be quite sizeable, get some alloy bobbins or file the forks out a dab wider to suit the bungs you have.

AFAIK Harris only make their stands to suit the ordinary size bobbins, I'm fairly sure they don't supply any bits for different sized ones.

Ok, thanks Sid, that's what I'll do.

I have one of these stands, I use the alloy bobbins from Harris as I got them as a freeby, works very well. Get alloy!

I used the R&G nylon ones on my race SV along with a Harris stand and it worked fine...
