SV650 Powered Quad Bike??

Am thinking of buying an older rear wheel drive farm quad bike, ripping out the single cylinder 300cc engine, and replacing it with a carbed SV650 engine   All for a winter project..

Fit some wider road wheels, a rev counter, and a speedo, then hopefully put it on the road for some fun... but what could I do for a reverse gear, as most farm quads have a reverse gear????

Would this be possible or am I living in cloud coo coo land

From what I've heard road reg's for quads are too much hassle.

Not saying you shouldn't try mind! Would be a handful.

Before anyone else does, I already told Jimmy he's out of his mind. But on the other hand, I want a go :)

Most quads 300cc plus are shaft drive which will be difficult to sort out. I think alot of the Polaris bikes are chain.
The SV engine is probably quite tall but as long as you are handy with a welder it should be fine.

I think you can road register a quad fairly easily by actually taking the lights off it and fitting a speedo. Or you could find a farm one that has already been registered.

A chassis from a racing quad would obviously be best as it would have reasonable suspension and chain drive.

Bloody hell Andy :!: What are you on :?: It's brilliant idea and you know it.

Don't stifle the boy's imagination, don't force him to be constrained by your conventionality*.

PS Considering the layout of most quads, I'd be surprised if you'd make a V-twin fit, and as for the reverse gear - forget it.

*Or sense.
**You're in the queue, after me.

To be fair, the other thing I said was "SV engines are expensive because they're in demand... Get a bandit 12 motor" :)

Now, you guys have really got my mind going. A quad with a bandit 1200 or 1400 motor, him maybe need a longer chassis for greater stability, which might make room for a low rider style machine, which sounds a bit queer but hold on.... a drag machine (geddit?).... somebody somewhere must have built a drag quad bike by now?

Hmmm, it's a pity i dont have the resources to make stuff like that.
