When should you renew the carb diaphragms?
Will be fitting a restrictor kit (susuki pistons) to bike this weekend for son.
Just wondered if anyone knows when diaphragms should be changed. Got quoted £38.45 for new diaphragms from dealers, wondered if old ones will still do for now. Bike only done 8000 miles, but is a "99 model. Any ideas? :? |
mine were spacers im between the carbs and the pistons...
were... lol  |
Dont worrey about it, mine was a 02 bike with 11k and the diaphams were completly fine. If the dealer brakes them its because he was not taking any care when doing it.
Will only need changing if they get damaged in some way. |
Thanks TSM, but thats my worry, the fact that the diaphragms are six years old now and wouldn't want one of them to rip or break when taking them off the old piston and refitting them to the restrictors and not having the new part if needed.

Mine are still in great nick at 5 years...

thanks for that, i suppose I'll find out when I start taking them apart

For the restrictor kit to be legal, it needs the certificate of fitting.
As for the rubbers, mines done 42k and still fine. They aint like the ones in the webbers on a fiesta that need replacing every week! |

When they're knackered, if they have holes in them or if the rubber is in any way cracked or less then perfectly flexible - but in reality they'll last the life of the bike and more. |
