Motorbike Test
Hi guys ive not been on in AGES ive been very busy sorting out my life (job etc) but since i got my new job ive done my theory test and had a training day    which i enjoyed very much which was the main thing! also the instructor said after 3 hours im nearly test standard but need a few more training days to polish off which i was pleased with so hopefully i will have my test completed before christmas and will see you all on the roads also im looking to get a Yamaha R6 because its been my dream bike for such a long time what do you all think? i know you all will have some positive and negative comments and i welcome them all!

Nice one on getting started.
An R6 is a doable bike for starting off with, but I'm pretty sure I would have killed myself on one, and I reckon there are a few people here who now ride very powerful bikes who would say the same. |
yeah it is a powerful bike but i know my limits also it will be restricted to 33bhp dont get me wrong i can still kill myself with it but itll be more managable (?) but i can't wait now hehe
|
an r6 is frightening ,,very nice looking ,but take it easy m8 if thats what you get btr off working up to one IMO,,a LOTdiff to er5/cb500 or whatever you sit test on .any ss 600 is a quantum leap as a first big bike ,think about it 8)

Have you thought about the cost of insurance for an r6?Group 15 and just passed test spell big money. Are you under 21?If not I would do the DAS test.If you are under 21 I would get a lower powered bike for a while to learn on.An SV would be good.
|
yeah i think the insurance quote i got was around the £1000 mark but thats cheaper than when i was gonna get a car 1.2 for £500 the insurance was £1500. ive got 1 years no claims bonus aswell :? ive really got my heart set on this bike

I would suggest that an R6 is not the best "1st big bike". An SV is a far better tool for the job, for at least 12 months, otherwise the chances of you ending up a government statistic are pretty high, in my opinion. . |
R6? - I honestly don't think you'd be disappointed in a SV. Much cheaper to insure. Handling's good. Buy a R6 once the insurance falls a bit.
Kill yourself? Do you ever think positively? You do not need to ride at warp speed to have a great time. Repeat 1,000 times 'I am going to ride responsibly, within my limits, and enjoy myself' Ed |
Buy an SV650.
There, I have said it for you - that is why you came to the SV site isn't it? What did the guys on the R6 site say? |
r6 are tuned for higher in the rev range (where the restrictor come in) you can still have fun on a sv (had mine over a year at 33bhp and its still fun) plus insurance will be alot more than a sv,
i reccon buy a sv (because they r the best at 33bhp) when your 2 years are up make it 72bhp, wait a year and then you will have 3 years no claims 3 years experience. thats what i am doing (tho i mightkeep the sv as a commuter) and buy a z1000 for my 21st bday (5yrs experience 5yrs no claims over 21 alot cheaper on the insurance) |
