Surrey To Wakefield Tomorrow - Bike or Train?
 

Ooohh...my first poll! :lol:

I've got to get from near Farnham to Wakefield tomorrow, and return on Thursday. I don't want to be a wimp :oops: but I am wondering whether, with the potential weather :roll:, I should just use the train instead.

The forecast shows light sleet for Wakey tomorrow, and rain for Thursday, but who knows what'll happen?!

I'd normally say take the bike, but this time went with the train. I think it was my aching back, and the mention of alcohol that did it :)

How many miles is it, how good is your winter kit ? How confident do you feel riding in this kind of weather ?

If you are in any doubt over any of this then at the moment with the roads in the state they are in I would go on the train.

Long distance biking isn't great fun in this kind of weather. Sometimes it's better to wimp out and travel in (relative) comfort. Riding should be enjoyable, not worrying that your fingers are going to drop off because of the cold.

My winter kit is probably pretty good - I have the HG Cruise textile suit and heated grips. I don't have wintery boots tho - Alpinestars summat or others :roll: :D

I have returned to two wheels this year, but had ridden throughout winter in the past.

Kate, where did you see the snowy forecast? Metcheck says it's ok.

Fizz, I think I'm pehaps a little like you! I do kinda like the challenge of the ride. Ok, in the grand scheme of things it isn't that challenging, but you know what I mean!

Head says train would be more sensible (and I'm sure my wife would prolly prefer that idea) but I'm still thinking bike.... :twisted: :twisted:

Oh, distance is 210 miles each way!

If you dont have winter boots, then boy are you going to get cold feet !!!

I've got a pair of Summer Alpinestars SMX-3's and no way would I ride distance with those on, your feet will freeze and then you wont be able to brake or change gear as properly and I wouldnt risk it

I've also got a pair of SMX3 Goretex that I use in the winter now as I got fedup with getting cold feet

If I were you I would take the train
