I've overfilled the engine Oil
 

:oops: How bad is that? Will I be causing any dmage if I ride it like this?

If it's drastically overfilled you'll notice the clutch slipping, not that i've done the same or anything :oops: just slowly undo sump bolt and drain a bit off.

Shouldn't do damage though as you're just over-lubricating parts making them too slippy i.e clutch plates.

hmmm, i think it can do damage if you overfill with oil, i seem to remember that if its overfilled the oil pressure increases and can cause a lot of smoke, just do as luke sugests and let alittle out of the sump plug...

It can make the gear changes difficult, and in theory puts a bit of extra strain on the engine.

Letting out the excess through the sump bolt is probably the hardest and messiest way to correct the level. A bit of plastic tubing on the end of a large syringe might be more appropriate, dipped through the oil filler, to suck up some of the excess oil.

Of course, whether or not you bother to do this depends on just how much you've over filled it by. If you've gone beyond the visibility of the sight-glass, then I suggest you do remove some. However, if you can still see the level of the oil, then probably not worth it.

Also....

did you start the engine, which will pump the oil into the filter and around the system? This makes a difference to the level, so if you'd not done that, and you think you've overfilled it, it's probably okay.

Thanks for the replies guys. I cannot see the Oil level at all so prolly need to drain it a bit. I have ridden to work this morning (9miles) and it runs fine though, although I have been finding it diffcult to get into neutral. Going to chemost to get a LARGE syringe....and something for my cold ;)

You could of course drain the oil and start over?

The oil pressure won't increase but the deeper oil level will splash about more and can lead to the bike smoking a bit.

If it's not drastically overfilled, unscrew the oil filter a few turns, a much easier way of losing about a half litre or so of oil, as unlike the sump plug you don't need to remove it entirely to cause a bit of oil leakage.
