4000m Service Dilema...
Any advice or views on the following
My K3 needs its 4k service, have been quoted 150 by Cupar bikes It's exactly 2 years old therefore the manufacturers warranty has just expired Is there any point in getting it serviced by a main dealer or should I do it myself ? Only thing I was concerned about was that most manufacturers (in the motor trade anyway) will consider a claim to them as a goodwill gesture if for example the gearbox packed up etc but dont know if Suzuki would be interested in contributing if anything major went faulty prematurely and the bike had not been serviced within the franchise network (although serviced as per their own recommendations using OEM parts) Any advice/opinions welcome |
as u were a mechanic you know how the system works i.e your out of your warranty period ,,,,TUFF!! DO IT YOURSELF ,AS WELL AS SAVING A FEW QUID THAT WAY YOU KNOW ITS BEEN DONE PROPERLY(OOPS CAPS LOCK SORRY)or am i overestimating your mechanicnes(new word there)

I'd do it myself, but then I'd also consider how long I intended to keep the bike, and whether the dealer stamps in the service book would make the bike a more saleable proposition, many people won't buy without them, even though many of us realise it's no certain guarantee that the servicing has been done right.

I wouldn't bother

do it your self! thats what i do much much cheaper and you know whats being done

DIY
tis only a oil filter, oil, sump plug washer... and a check over of the bike... to see if all the nuts and bolts are tight, and nothing is going to fall off. |

The manual also specs a check on all hoses - that's about it

Keep Records
If you DIY, and I would, keep all the receipts for parts you used in the tune up. While you can't prove you inspected hoses, chain, etc., you can keep all records of parts you bought, oil, sparkplugs, bulbs, chain lube, etc. Dates of these parts would help as a record of when and how the bike was serviced. If I was looking at a bike, that kind of organization would tell me something about the bike and it's owner.
