Which Can too ???
Hi all, my first post so go gently :)
I didnt want to crash the other 'Which Can ???' thread so here is my question: My lovely SV is now in need of an MOT, well its needed one for a few months but its been garaged and had no use for ages. But all is about to change :) Thing is I have a Micron high level stainless system and carbon oval can that is definately NOT road legal. So... does anyone know of a road legal can that I can slip on in its place? Just like the carbon one that is fitted. Here is a pic of my bike:http://www.btinternet.com/~m.guppy/sv/closeside.JPG Picture is 3 years old thats why the bike looks all new and shiny, them were the days. I do still have the original system but am reluctant to fit it back in place for the MOT, it would be nice to have a can that is road legal and still look as good. Thanks Mick BTW: I have looked at Microns site for their road legal versions but I cant seem to make head or tail of whether their road cans will fit. They do give technical specs for each but my pc wont show me the info :( |
I've also got the micron hi-level exhust and i love it
At the mo, i use the original system for MoTs but i'm going to be looking for another can soon thats MoT friendly, anything that fits the pipes will do, so my suggestion is, borrow a legal can from a mate (if it fits), its only for 30mins or so so it don't matter about running, noise, etc |
(Allegedly) some MOT places (often the ones on industrial estates) will do MOTs and ignore stuff like that. If it's something like a can that they know you can change right after the MOT some will overlook it. Worth a look if it saves you hunting up a can just for the MOT.

Apparently its to the testers discretion whether the can is too loud or not.
So find one who's 'easy'! *edit* But then the DVLA are now being sneaky and can sit up to a mile away with a laptop and connect to the tester's computer (as its all done by computer now) and stop the motorcycle once its been tested and check it over themselves, and if the zorst is too loud and they've passed it, the testers can lose they're license to MOT for up to a year.... so less testers are gonna be 'easy' on that count I guess |
My tester just said "If anyone asks, you put the standard can back on, right?" Which is fair enough, you'd have to be a complete knob to drop them in it for doing you a favour.
Beowulf and Track & Race make generic baffles that can be quite effective... |
Thanks guys
I'll go round a few local testing places and see how friendly  they are. Mick |
