New forks ??
Nope,
Just a bit of elbow grease and some niffty spraying. The fork lowers were seriously pitted. Also the bottom yolk looked completely orange because of the dreaded rust. I think I did a good job even if I do say so myself.  http://premium1.uploadit.org/bikemad...ed-forks-1.jpg http://premium1.uploadit.org/bikemad...ed-forks-2.jpg http://premium1.uploadit.org/bikemad...ed-forks-3.jpg |
Lookin smooth. Masking tape, Sandpaper & Hammerite?
Did you spray the yokes attached to the bike or did you take them off? |
Masking tape. 400 grit followed by 1200. Grey primer one coat, then satin black, three layers. 1200 grit again. One more coat of black then 4 layers of lacquerer.
Spray paint from Halfords. The yolk I did in situ. A proper job will be done some time in the future. Time will tell if they will wear better than the crap job that Suzuki did on the forks. It took two days to do including dismantling and fitting them back on again. |
Yep hope it lasts. Seems like its a good job.
I used halfords paint for my bar ends, they looked all ok till i went on holiday then the paint started all cracking. It was the halfords stuff i used. |
Did you use lacquerer on top?
|
Yep (several layers), it was hard. You could not scratch it with your nail. It only happened on day 2 when i was in spain. The heat was intense though.

What Halfords paint did you use? The wheel paint or the standard celly stuff? Looks excellent...
