Metropolis Workshop (Vauxhall) - any good?

Does anyone have any experience of getting things serviced there? Thanks in advance.

When i first got my bike, they gave a time two weeks in advance. Just around the corner, next to the station entrance there is another garage that i used, he was able to do work on my bike the day after i called him.

It was to put the restrictors in.

My mate seems to be getting dicked around by them. He wanted a service and an MOT for his Diversion 900. They did the service, and then failed the MOT because he needed new tyres. So they fitted them, and charged him for another MOT. Now they've told him £700 for the service and 2 MOT's!

That's taking the urine isnt it? Any self respecting workshop guy would know to change defective tyres before an MOT right? Idiots. I've told him to ask for the work sheet, and to query everything on it.

There's only(!) 4 hours of labour so unless they have some ridiculous rate there must be some expensive parts there too. It's done a few miles so what could it be? Shocks? Discs and pads probably but it is a shaft drive so no chain and spockets. He needed new front bearings but they are not expensive are they?

I thought could have been a new silencer if the packing has gone, but surely they should call before fitting a new right? I presume in that case they would have gone for an expensive OEM one.

Take this for a joke in their MOT dept.

When i was there for my test at the end of last year their MOT dept failed the personal bike of one instructer because it did not have pillion pegs...

Said they were missing, the instructer said they are not missing just in my garage...

Is it not a free re-test if the work is done by the same garage in x-amount of days??

thor 10-01-06 02:11 PM

Ok, so the MOT thing WAS a joke...

BUT labour is £55/hour +VAT - ouch!

That plus new tyres and all the other minor parts and fluids and it's £700. That's why I try to do most of it myself!

I always ask ffor a service to be done to bring the bike up to MOT standard before asking the garage to they test it.

£55 for labour is a joke.

£28ish round here on average and £45 is the most expensive.

Garages normally call if the cost are going to be any more than £300 or so. The average person doesnt have more than 300 notes to spare.

mystery, thats cause you live in the cheaper rent end of the UK  ..

We pay enough to rent a w/shop in Surrey - id hate to know what the cost is in London itself!.

My dads friend rents one in Derby and pays half the amount for twice the space as we have.....no wonder labour rates up north are less!

I refuse to go to Metropolis @ Vauxhall on principle, after they have been ********s about a couple of things in the past.

Like Etienne wanted a new Arai helmet and the guy persuaded him that another make was better and definitely quieter (low noise was his main criteria). So he bought it then rode a mile down the road and the lid was REALLY noisy, even at city speeds. So he went stright back and explained that it didn't meet his specified criteria of being a quiet helmet and the guy just told him to buzz off, wouldn't let him speak to the manager or anything. Called up to talk to them and went in again, but same type of response. Waste of £250 as he ended up getting an Arai as well...

Not the workshop I know, but I can only hazard a guess that the crap management/service probably extends to that as well...
