Help needed with front wheel
Hi guys and gals, can anybody help me im looking for a front wheel for my k3 and was wondering weather any other wheel's fit the sv like gsxr and bandit wheels,i have managed to source a 1999 tl 1000 front wheel which seems to be the same size 17m 3.50 would there be any reason why this wouldn't fit?
Any feedback would be much apreciated. |
I think (only my thought) that it should fit if the wheel size is the same but you may need to change the bearings
I THINK :D |
Not that simple, GSXR and SV disc mounting is pretty different, and the hubs may be (probably are) a different size as well as the bearings. IIRC GSXR wheel hubs are a little wider than SV. Don't actually take that as a fact, or even especially likely :)Also, SV650s run the speedo off the front wheel and have a castellation to power the speedo drive which GSXR wheels lack.
Bearings aren't really an issue, as long as the bearings in the wheel are bigger than the SV's spindle- a captive spacer would sort that. Assuming you have a 650, that GSXR SRAD wheel doesn't fit. If you've already bought it and it's dark grey, I might buy if off you though :) You could work around all of the issues and make it fit but it'd cost more than an SV front wheel to do (custom disc carriers, maybe captive spacers or bearings, something to sort the speedo, probably some more spacers... Maybe more. If it's a thou you have then GSXR750 Y-K2, GSXR1000K1-K4, and 600 (erm, I think K1 to K5?) are exactly the same. Later years may be. I think the front wheel for the 650's even different from carbed to injected models... There's Bandit and allegedly GSXF wheels that fit some, but which ones I couldn't guess. |
You might find this of interest as he says the wheel will fit Suzuki GSX1400 600 1200 bandit SV650.

Cheers for the feed back guys,i haven't brought the tl1000 wheel yet and i have my doubts as to weather the one that's on e-bay will fit,i would prob chance it but it's also the wrong colour :(
I should of said that it is a k3 650s model that i have, the wheel has only got a small dink in it and was thinking about trying to get it fixed but cant seem to find anywhere that does it? have any of you had one fixed? if so was ok and where abouts did you get it done. Thanks again :D |
Hagon do that i think, but it's not cheap. £75 rings a bell, plus postage. Not much less than a new wheel really.
When you say it's dinked, is the wheel still basically round? Holds air OK? Is the rim lower, or bent in or out? Standard wheels have a safe runout figure which is surprisingly high, it's either 1 or 2mm IIRC (I'll check the Haynes if I can find it) If it's purely cosmetic, ie the wheel is perfectly round but has scrapes in it, and maybe a little metal lost from the rim, then some powdercoaters can "filler" the damage with a solder then coatit for you... |
After my crash a while back I had both wheels damaged, Hagon did a great job with the rear but the front shattered, They don't charge if it breaks so theres no harm giving it a go :)
Can't remember how much I paid but it was less than £75 by a fair way  |
That's good to know... They used to quote £75 in their advert, always seemed too expensive.
|
Think its done on an adhoc basis tbh with how bad the wheel is etc... they just quote the £75 to cover themselves on worst case scenario
I took them in and had them done as Hagon is fairly local to me tho... Hey maybe they just took pity on me after me crashing and breaking both wheels... rare apparently   |
Cheer's guys i checked out the Hagon website, they charge £85 which sounds reasonable enough but was just wondering weather anyone knows of somewhere a bit closer to me as im based in the midlands area.
Cheer's again guys |
