Carb Heaters (again) anyone got the part #?

i'm going to try replaceing the carb heaters on my bike as a last ditch attempt to get it back to being usable before i sell it or burn it

Don't waste your time and money - they don't work.

SDTH*

*Kinda like HTH only meaning 'Sincerely Doubt This Helps', sorry but it's what I've found to be the truth.

So is my SV a summer only bike then? how is everyone else managing to use theirs through the winter?.
I have a jetkit for the bike (well, bigger mains and a shim for the needle) would fitting that help in any way.
could i get upgraded heaters. the bike is utterly useless at the moment and i've spent a wad on taxis and buses in the last month, and the weather isnt likely to improve until the end of february.

add some silkolene pro fst to your fuel its always done me good through winter

no amount of pro fst will stop it from icing up. hence my reasoning that the heaters are fubar. even though they have the correct resistance when i check them with a multimeter.

Do they get warm if you put 12 V through them, from memory +12v to the centre and the threaded portion is the earth (negative or ground return). PS No petrol around if you take them out!

I would like to know the part # too

How did you get on with the FST Pro, Randy?

Carb icing's a funny thing. Ages back I parked up beside a mate's SV overnight... Both filled with Optimax fom the same station. The next day we rode off, mine was fine and the other one would barely run from carb icing (it'd had been perfect the day before, and was perfect later that day) By rights mine should be worth with its foam filter and higher tune.

So there must be something that causes one SV to ice but not the next. I ride constantly in winter in perfect icing conditions- damp and cold- and I only use the FST Pro on the very worst days. The rest of the time I get a very occasional sluggishness and a slightly ropey idle at worst.

One thing, if you have the wee thermostat for the heaters somewhere warm they'll never switch on. I have mine sticking out into the front fairing. Whether they do anything when they come on I honestly don't know.

I was also thinking of replacing the thermoswitch with a plain old switch so i could choose when i wanted the heaters on or not
