Disgusting brew
 

Badgers Blandford Fly.

It's very rare that I can't finish a bottle of ale but I tipped more than half of this down the sink. Neck label says 'an unusually refreshing premium ale subtly spiced for extra bite' - it tastes of ginger, far too much so. Shame really, it's 5.2% so does the business - but the taste is vile :sick:

I'm hooked on Innes & Gunne at the mo, superb stuff. Bought a bottle of Fullers' Blond Beer (or summat), expected it to be wonderful (as Fullers' beer normally is) but it was decidely second rate, nothing more than a simple none-too-good pale ale. But that's half the fun of trying, you'll go through a few iffies and then come across a real beauty.

We used to make home brew, standard kit stuff, but swap out the yeast for wine yeast. These boys seem to have a higher tolerance for alcohol. Which means, all you need to do is add a little bit more sugar when you are doing your secondary fermentation, and you are all set.

We regularly hit the 8% mark. Didnt taste that bad, sort of a bit alcoholy alright, with overtones of em, muddy Weissbier or something. Probably wouldnt be drinking it for the taste lets say. But, it was perfectly drinkable having said that.

Anyway, just thought I would pass that particular piece of dirt bag student wisdom on to any budding (sorry) home brewers out there.

Oh yeah. You might also want to consider not using glass bottles if you are doing this. We sort of had an incident... the result of which meant glass had to be picked out of the bookshelves.

I usually drink a "bit ",ahem, of Hobgoblin but the local brewery have started doing a lovely bottled beer by the name of Goldminer. If anyone is down this way (Dr Rich) then I can well recommend it :twisted: :drink:

I've run out of Christmas beer but came across a present I didn't hand out to a Scottish relative - a four pack of Scottish Historic ales. Out of sheer desperation I tried one. It's called 'Kelpie'.

On the positive side it passes the purity test. No artificial additives in there. On the negative side the ingredients are malt, hops, water.....and seaweed.

I'll try anything once, but I won't be trying this one a second time. :roll:

WHAT!? Blandford Fly is fantastic beer - one of my favourites. You're just drinking it at the wrong time of year. It's a really refreshing summer beer that should be drunk chilled on hot days.

Try a cold one on a really hot day and see if your opinion changes.
I stick to dark, winter ales on dark winter days like these.

The only TRUELY disgusting brews are:

Mead
&
Gin.
