Quick insurance / MOT question...

Hypothetically speaking, if my bike wasn't MOT'd, then I insured it, without mentioning that fact, nor being asked, and then it was nicked, and the insurers asked for the MOT certificate, which obviously I wouldn't have... would my insurance be void?

Iceman 26-01-06 04:26 PM

I would think so, not too sure though...

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuck...

Hypotheticcaly speaking, I'm proper ****ed then.

Well, don't take my word for it... I was just guessing.
Surley the MOT only dictates whether or not the bike is road worthy.

You need insurance to to ride it to the MOT test centre, so thinking about it a bit more, you should be ok

I'd say you're probably OK as it was stolen, rather than crashed
(no MOT = unroadworthy)...
but a bike with out an MOT gets a big hit when it comes to valuation.

Are you sure the MOT wasnt under the rear seat with some other documents?

inevitable 26-01-06 04:39 PM

hmmm, I can't exactly ask the insurers can I, they'll jump at the chance to void it.

What happens if you genuinely lose an MOT certificate? Are you able to get a copy? If not I'll try the lost angle?

eta: or if it was on the bike at the time...

You should be able to get a copy of the MOT certificate from the issueing MOT test station

I think IIRC you have to pay £15 to get a copy of it though and it helps if you know the number of the certificate

Iceman 26-01-06 04:48 PM

Well, you should be fine as this is only a hypothetical scenario

inevitable 26-01-06 04:55 PM

In the real world it was out of test for 6 weeks, uninsured for 4. (I should point out that I didn't ride it at this time).

 :x Then it got nicked 8 days after I re-insured it without an MOT.

I think there's a lesson to be learnt there somewhere...
