Corrosion On Front suspension
Hi All
Passed my big bike test last year and bought 2004 SV650s fully faired and with less than 2000 miles on clock a real Beeeeauty. Up to now done just overv 4000 miles mainly work based but at moment have broken wrist so unable to ride for a while, bit of a sod on days like today dry cold sunshine blue sky but nothin I can do. Problem is gave the beast a wash last week and surpried to find that both forks at top end have rust on them and also the yoke below is covered in srface rust that wont come off, I know that suzuki a bit sus for build quality but rust on suspension oif bike thats not yet 2 yrs old is a bit worrying. Have asked local dealer about warranty (2yrs) but gotta get bike to them to have a look at. Anyone else had any similiar problems and what is Suzuki like for warranty ????? Have gud day Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bingpaul[/b] |
When was it last cleaned? They take a lot of care and cleaning if you want to keep them in top condition. The forks are prone to corrosion from salt etc if not washed off regularly.

Corrosion On Front suspension
Hi There
Bike washed regularly and left to dry before covering, last washed just before broke and no sign of anything then, knew about sus build quality so was keeping eye on all parts of bike, rest of bike is fine not a shadow of rust Bingopaul |
I spray my bike off with water, let it dry and spray it with scottoiler stuff everytime its ridden in the winter and hasn't got any rust so far.
From what other people have said the solution appears to be in regular washing and drying during the salty months. |
Yep. I've got quite bad corrosion on the lower triple clamp of my K3. Have been to Suzuki about a fix under warranty, but they're useless. No go. They say it's just normal "wear and tear" but I disagree. The useless sods! There's no salt on the roads, etc. here in New Zealand and I'm not right next to the sea. The rest of the bike is fine. I reckon it's just a crap casting or they forgot to paint it or something.
I'm going to take it off this winter and glass bead blast it and give it a decent paint. Suzuki after sales service really sucks. Especially here in NZ. They make great bikes, no doublt about it, but they've got you by the short and curlies otherwise the mongrels. Whew! Sorry, I digress. I share your concern. |
