Fork Height Through Yokes?
 

Hi all

A while ago i posted that the forks on my 01 curvy naked svs forks pertrude about 7 mm through the top of the yoke, othere here said that was about right,

now 7 mm is a guess,, and im putting the forks back into the bike tommorrow and there is no measurment in the haynes for this petrusion, infact looking at the pictures for the nakid model there appears to be no petrusion shown!! :x

so to petrude or not to pertrude,, that is the question?

Theres no hard & fast rule regardin the ammount of protrusion except for the maximum ammount, i have heard of people that have had more than the 7mm you mention so that should be ok, the reason for the fork comming out of the top yoke is to sharpen up the steering of the bike, i believe the standard setting for the curvy is to have them flush with the top so you could start with that & progress from there going a mm or two at a time, make sure though that you do them both by the same ammount.

The forks should protrude through the yokes by 6mm on a naked.

Level with the upper yoke for a faired.

These are standard figures of course, people have played with the setting to some effect - good and bad.

Best i sort the missus's bike out this weekend, hers were flush when she got it, thats what i was going by, cheers sid. :wink:

Looking at a sales brochure for the K1 bikes, it does look like the naked bikes fork legs protrude through the top yokes. If yours where through approx 7mm put them back in at that. Main thing as previously stated is to make sure they are both the same measurement. The faired ones are flush but dropping them by 10mm quickens the turn in.

I have actually put them back in level with the top because i remember prior to removing the forks the turning in of the bike was a bit to quick, which i felt made it a little unstable, but ill ride it a bit and see how i feel..

I used to have mine dropped 10mm at the front, and raised 20mm at the back. Lovely. It's much the same now with the GSXR front end under compression. This is one of those things where there's no magic number, some people like slow and stable, some people like fast and fidgety.

took it out for its blat and seems much better and the heavier fork oil what a gift...!! sokas up anything now....! very happy chappy..

just need to spend 6 hours bleeding bleeding brakes!!

i like sure footed and steady...!!

Mine are 4mm. I shall when I can be arsed change them to 6 or 7 mm. Having the jack up kit on the back with the gixxer shock has now made it a bit lazy at the front when cornering.
