Walked away from a head on collision today.....

Well, I walked out of the hospital anyway.

So commuting as normal this morning and as I go along Selhurst road doing about 25mph towards South Norwood, I go over a cross roads and then I suddenly see a car on my side of the road coming straight towards me. There was nowhere to go so we collided head on.

I remember somersaulting through the air and landing on my back. I know nothing about first aid except you aren't supposed to move after an accident so I didn't. Luckily a first aider appeared pretty much immediately and looked after me.

The guy who hit me was asleep at the wheel.

He didn't slow down at all, just veered onto the other lane and went straight into me. I didn't even have much chance to brake either.

Anyway, got picked up by paramedics and taken to the hospital and they checked me over. Btw, neck braces are really not comfortable. I was given pain killers and told I could go home so I did. Kindly Joe and our own Squirrel came and got me.

So I have whiplash, heavy bruising and strained ligaments and tendons etc. Ow. Good thing I'm not a guy as I got slammed into the tank but damn, it still hurts if you a girl. I won't be getting on a bike for a bit.

The good news is that it seems at first glance that the SV will be ok. The front end is pretty totalled - the forks are bent back forcing the front wheel up against the engine and the front fairing is pretty much non-existent. But all repairable.

I am thinking about using some other form of transport for commuting now though. All my accidents have been when commuting, maybe its time to take a hint, will have to see.

I have a hire car already arranged for tomorrow - a Corsa! lol

That sent a shiver down my spine. Makes me recall my accidents.

Yep thoes neck braces start to hurt the back of your head and chin after a while.

Realy glad that you are ok.

Damm, sorry to read this. Injuries should heal after time but don't be suprised if they last. Get a good solicitor to persue the damage to your bike, injuries and the uninsured losses such as helmet, leathers etc.

Sounds like you have some good people looking after you. So put your feet up for a couple of days and milk the attention whilst it lasts.

Oh yes, after wandering around the accident scene telling people that he was asleep at the wheel, he decided he also needed to go to hospital for back pains.

He ended up in the bed next to me and he was snoring. Could not believe it.

The police were at the scene and got statements and also came to hospital too. They have him and will be charging him with 'driving without due care and attention'.

Apparently he passed his driving test last month and this is the second RTA he has had.

Unbelievable.
