Just a quick hello

Hi there guys,

Just thought I would take the opportunity to say hi, it is looking like I might finally get the money together to be able to take my DAS this Easter (ish) followed shortly after by me getting an SV. I will be looking to go for a fully faired 2000 model in Blue in honour of a mate of mine, still don't know much about biking or the SV yet but it has been something I have always wanted to do and have wanted an SV for about a year now. Anyway I am based down in Plymouth so I guess I will see you out on the road, if anyone has any hints and tips then very welcome.. will be reading the reviews and buying tips on the site as I go along.

Thanks

Nick

Welcome Nick, you're buying the right bike and found the best forum. Watch for the rideouts, May 20th to Wales will be a good one.

Well as soon as I pass my test and get the bike then I will be on the first Ride OUt I can. The good news is my girlfriend is all for me getting a bike and for coming out with me, guess that will be a little while after I pass though.

This is a tricky one, depends on your confidence and the confidence your pillion has in you. Get to know how the bike handles first especially at low speeds in traffic as this is where the little wobbles have the greatest potential for grief (IMHO). When you first ride with a pilion give them some basic guideance BEFORE they get on the bike i.e.

sit still especially when going round corners
discuss what they are going to hold on to  and where they will put their feet
how they are going to brace themself when you brake (an extra 50kg of pillion weight on your wrist in an emergency stop can be a bit un nerving)
keep their body in line with yours .. ie don't try and fight the lean of then bike
the exhaust is HOT and will melt the soles of their boots
keep sharp object away from the paint work

Remember, pillions usually come off worse in a spill (God forbid) so make sure they have all the correct gear.
