SV 1000 trade up

Hi,
just wondering if anyone has owned a 650 and then gone onto the sv1000?

I am after more horses and an SV seems like a logical step but would be interested to hear from people who have already made the move. (or even to another twin of different make)

Many thanks,
JB68

They're that good compared to the 650 :?:

No question. Suspension the 650 can only dream of (though it needs fettling to get it just right), brakes from the GSXR750 (though no longer the latest model) and an engine that's mega-punchy and sublime - just needs a couple of extra teeth on the rear sprocket IMO to make it into a banzai machine.

If you've got a 650, Jack in the for sale section is looking at a possible swap for his 1000.

My riding mate has a K3 SV1000s but he was looking longingly at my 650s. He had one before the 1000 and missing the lightness and flickability and the sheer fun but I suspect if he went back to the 650 he would miss the extra horses.

Sounds like the perfect excuse to have both....

Had a curvy 650 with twin rengade pipes/airbox and loved it.

Changed up to a thou two years ago - I missed the 650 at first, however once I got some new cans for the thou I forgot all about the 650.

The thou does pretty much everything the 650 did, but about 50% better. Acceleration is amazing - whether you knock it down a couple of cogs or just bang open the throttle. Suspension is much better (could still be improved though) and whilst it is not as flickable as the 650, the better sussies and extra weight seem to make it a lot more stable in the corners.

Starting to get itchy feet at the moment, tempted to have a look at a Trump ST however realistically probably won't change till next year.

I have upgraded from SV650S (curvy) to a TL1000R.

Whilst the TL is better (faster, better handling, better brakes etc), I am still a lover of my SV and I still really rate them.

In fact, I choose to ride the SV over the TL if it is something like commuting.
