I may be wrong but this is a possible which I suspect to be the cause.
When you switch off an engine it will spin down under inertia until eventually it reaches a compression stroke which the inertia can't overcome. If it comes to a stop near the top of compression it will "bounce" back a little. The starter has a roller type clutch in it (usually), so when the engine turns backwards it picks up on the clutch and drives the starter gear train backwards. I suspect this is what gives the clunk. As I say I'm open to be proven wrong. :? If this is the case, then there's nothing to be done, they're all like that sir. Also it'll be much more likely with a twin than a L4 due to the size of the cyliders (i.e. how strong the bounce "spring" is) relative to the engine friction. |
cool
cheers for the insight was worried there might be teeth missing on the starter clutch wheel |
Oooh. Nice lid sir.
Thats the Bandit, yeah? How do you find it, weight and comfort wise? |
Mines always done it... Never really worried about it

I used to worry about. It's the first bike that I have ever owned that I can remember doing it.
