Fitting Gilles Rearsets???
 

Hi,

Has anyone fitted these rearsets before?
They look pretty straight forward but do you need to bleed the brake?
Ihope everything goes smoothly i'll let you know next week how they look and if it was a pig of a job or not.

No bleeding necessary. Just unbolt the old footpegs and take the master cylinder for the rearbrake offand then bolt the Gilles in place. The hardest bit will be deciding which position you like best for the new rearsets and setting up the gear lever (getting it in the right place). The bolts that hold the heel plate on on the right side also hold the master cylinder if I remember correctly. Sometimes these can be a pig to undo.

Shouldn't need to, you use the same master cylinder. But, I'm not sure if Gilles have provision for the brake switch spring. If not, you'll either need to make it fit somehow, or fit a pressure switch, and that does mean bleeding them. (MOT fail otherwise, not to mention potentially unsafe)

Nop all should be easy. I found the tricky bit was the brake light, but it may be diffrent on the pointy bikes. I did not move my brake switch as i was missing the gilles bracket. I just had a longer spring that was supplied with my secondhand sets.

I'll give it a go yeah you get a new spring and there is a clip for the rear brake switch I think.

Did any of you find it made the SV feel more sporty to ride?

I would also Like to some how drop the bars but I think Ill leave that for another rainy day lol.

You can't. They are bolted to the top yoke. You would probably have clearance problems as well.

You can drop the forks through the yokes to lower the front end a bit. This also has the effect of quickening the steering as it changes the steering angle.

True this one.

One problem you can encounter is movement or adjustment to the right one as the break pipe can restrict it a little you may need to slacken it of and move it round to the next peg. Then you will need to bleed it. I had problem with my break light switch plug not able to reach but a new one for £2.50 solved that problem. Oh my bike is the SV1000S

Yeah, go for a nice long ride and take your tools with you. By the end of it you should find exactly the right setting for each peg.

Sad to say I got mine because my left leg is half and inch shorter than my right - so my pegs are set wonky! :roll:

But the right rearset should fit on with some space for the res right?
I took a look at the tubes and I dont think there is a lot of space still I'll find out soon enough.

Admittedly I fitted mine to a 'Blade rather than the SV, but I found there were a couple of settings that I couldn't possibly use on the right peg as the exhaust (IIRC) was in the way.

Though they are manufactured to fit on to each bike - i.e. attach bodily to the bike I don't know how flexible they are with regard to 'all' the peg combinations being available. It may be you find this is going to be your problem - you can only adjust one of the pegs a little and the other alot. :?
