Pad Change -bolt size??
 

Just changing the front pads on my Curvy SV650S.

Calipers off no problem..

My problem is the two bolts that hold the pads in. For some reason, my smallest socket is only 5mm so im not sure how big the tiny bolt are.

Can anyone let me know the size so I can go buy the right sockets?

Or if theres another easier way or if you need a specific tool.

You've lost me.I don't think there are any bolts holding the pads in.There is a pin with a split pin through it that should pull out but no bolt IIRC.

I've just had another look, think im missing something?

Is there a "simpletons" :oops: guide on here somewhere? I'll have a read.

If not though and if you could answer, whats the process?

Taken two main bolts holding the calipers off.
Push the pistons back into position
Remove the pad? (can only see 1 bolt/split pin holding it in?)

Put back together etc...

The pad retaining pins have a 6-sided head like a bolt but there's no thread. Just pull it by hand ( or grips depending on the amount of corrosion).

Yeah, sorry, dumb ass morning. Swapped them over now :lol: All sorted.

Damn pistons. 1 piston in each caliper was easy, but getting the other one back was a b1tch (one behined the bracket).

If the retaining pins have a hex head on them, you obviously have upgraded pins as the stock ones are flush with the caliper body and therefore there is nothing to grip/turn etc and consequently can be a real b1tch to remove.

I am concerned you state one piston was difficult to push back in. Are you sure it was not binding to the seals as forcing it back may have damaged to seal lip.

Unsure, brakes seemed ok this morning, obviously taking it easy for a few days to bed them in so i'll see how they go. May just have been a slightly stickey piston. Cleaned the sides as much as I could anyway.

Just have to see how it goes now.

PS, yeah, have got the hexagon style head. Once i'd looked properly, seen the split pin and removed it, took me about 10 minutes to do the other set of pads :lol:
