flat battery

Hi,

Tried to start my bike this mornig after not using it for 2 days and the battery was almost dead & unable to start bike. It was raining last night but the bike was covered. This has has happened a few times, I have bought a new battery but it's made no difference. It usually happens when it is either very cold or wet even though the bike is covered. An ideas anyone?

Cheers

Buy a optimate or something like & plug it in every night.

I can't, it's kept outside, away from any power sockets.

Is there a way to charge the battery without removing it from the bike? I remember when I got a jump once, the guy attached the cable to the foot hanger and something else to jump it, so didn't actually get near the battery.

Thats a way of jumping the bike, but i wouldnt recommend trying to charge it that way. I believe its connect to part of/or near to the solenoid. Someone else should know.

I used to use the optimate by running it through a window and it was the easiest way. If you're no where near a socket you can whip out the battery in less than 5 minutes and take it in.

There's two possibilities i see, either its not being charged by the system (reg/rec or alternator probably) or there is something draining it such as an alarm.

It probably the rectifier thats not alowing the battery to charge. I have the other problem of the battery not holding a charge as i found out this morning :(

I don't have an alarm or anything that might drain it. It's weird, it can go for 6 - 8 weeks and then one morning it's almost dead.
