Type of Givi rack
Before I start, this question involves t*pbox racks. So if you are easily offended, or disgusted by such things, please don't read on.
..oh, and no "don't do it", "by a car", "by a bmw" gags. please :!: I'm going into Europe for a tour, the used curvey I bought came with a Givi rack already fitted, so I'm gonna buy a box to use on the tour. My question is, how do i tell what type of 'fitting system' my rack is in order to buy a compatible box? Also, for those who use a box for touring, whats your experience of the optimum size for storing stuff vs not disrupting the bikes dynamics. This trip will be about a week long, but may do longer ones in the future. Thanks in advance for your help! EDIT: Just found this, from memory of what it looks like, I think it is this type that I have.... http://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=520434 C. |
Have you ever considered the Kappa hard luggage?
Made by the same company as the Givi, but cheaper. I had the Kappa monorack and tubular side-case holders + the Kappa K40 panniers. This is how the bike looked: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1 |
perhaps.... didn't know anything else would fit...
I would consider it, if it was compatible. Happy to pursue a cheaper option!
I only have a top box rack and don't intend to fit any more racking. What Kappa topboxes are compatible with Givi top box racks (and back to original question) how do you tell what type of rack you have. How many types of Givi rack are there for example? C. |
Drop Jonboy a PM, he is the world afficinado(sp?) on top boxes :D

Love you too you swine

Forget the expense of a top box. I got a 5 quid HG waterproof bag to take when i go touring. Takes a lot of stuff and you can fit another bag within it as well as a host of other things and will easilt bungee to your rack.

Depends on how much stuff you are willing to take with you.
The two Kappa K40 panniers carried up to 80 litres of stuff, then you could load the pillion seat and the topbox rack. I actually used these to move house from Edinburgh to Cambridge   The extra storage capacity comes at a cost though: panniers and tubular side case holder were £220 and an extra £70 for the mounting rack. But once you've bought the mounting rack you can buy any Givi or Kappa Monokey (not Monolck) case. So it's up to you... do you spend £300 on fairing lowers that make the bike look a little better or £290 for some solid, waterproof panniers that don't get nicked at the first petrol station? |
At this point, I really am only interested in a single top box.
I need to know which one's will fit my existing rack which looks a little something like this http://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=520434 I find the waterproof bag bungeeing quite a good idea too.....as a good budget option. Definately not looking to spend more than £75. £50 or less would be better. C. |
That link you posted for M&P.....see that waterproof bag that costs 20 quid,,,,,HG one is more or less the same and costs 5 quid and is water tight!!

I'm fairly sure you will need a box using the monokey system. You may also find that Kappa boxes will also fit your rack.
Try www.givi.co.uk/uk.asp for your local dealer find what fits then buy from e-bay! |
