New drive chain fitted, now theres an odd noise...
 

I fitted new chain and sprockets the other day. I used a Chain riveting tool for the first time. Now when I ride the bike I can hear a tick,tick,tick sound which is related to road speed. Once I get above a fast walking pace I cant hear it. I put the bike on a paddock stand and turned the rear wheel and could not hear the noise.

I have taken the sprocket cover off and checked for anything snagging on the chain but its all OK.

Have I damaged the chain by walloping it too hard with the riveting tool?:(

Check the chain for sticky links.

Walloping it with the rivet tool? I was under the impression that a thread was turned to compress the rivet, but could be wrong as I have yet to do it.

1) Check chain the tension is consistant all the way round
2) Check chain tension is correct
3) Find the riveted link and check that you can move the link in relation to the one imidiatly before and after it, checking in effect that the rivet link is not "seized" solid giving a pre-built tight link that you can hear going round the chain.

Edited to remove some crimes against spelling...

Thanks chaps I will check. The riveting tool I used does indeed screw in, you than tap it, screw it in a bit more, tap it and so on....

Is your chain over-tight?

check your wheel alignment and did you use a torque rench when fitting your chain and sprockets??? if not that could be your problem your sprocket might be p155ed

It was the chain tension, too tight.
