Cycle carriers
 

Can anyone reccomend a good roof mounted cycle carrier for a mountain bike?
My roof bars are Honda aero ones :roll:

Mont Blanc Barracuda is looking favourite so far.

You can't go wrong with Mont Blanc, but then again your wallet won't like it a bit.

Try Thule. Maybe not as expensive and the build quality is usually great.

I have two roof carriers from a company called Avenir - much cheaper than the Thule ones and recommended by my local (very big) cycle shop. I got them three years ago and they're very stable and firm, holding the bike by the pedal crank. The shop still sells them so they cannot be too bad.

Went for the Mount Blanc in the end (If anyone's interested).
Quality is pretty good, fairly easy to put on the car and put the bike on it on my own (not really rocket science is it).
Bit pricy for what it is though.
Poor old bikes seen better days mind.

Good bike you got there. Yep, it's a bit outdated, but so is mine... :roll: Damn things aren't cheap to maintain once you've gone past a certain level. Mine is sure needing some new bits on it, I've already started a couple of years ago (new Marzocchi Bomber forks, Shimano XT V-Brakes), but a lot of the rest is going south (old XT derailleurs and sprockets, LX shifters...) :cry:

BTW, nice seat. WTB certainly knew how to make them!

Just a bit :D, bought it in 1991, out of the original bike I wheeled out of the shop only the frame (including the crank) and the seat post remain, the rest has been replaced as it broke.

It looks tatty and has plenty of battle scars but still rides really well and everything works perfectly.
I think I'll keep it until the frame snaps.

I can still keep up with my mate (15 years my junior) on his brand new super fangled titanium thing !
