44/46 extra length chain?
I want to change from a ‘44’ tooth rear sprocket to a ‘46’ tooth sprocket. My bike is a 1999 SV650 faired and I’ve read a few threads on this and it has been suggested I need to change the chain from a 108 to 110.
Does anyone know what the difference in length is i.e. 2cm? It’s just that my chain has stretched anyway and I might be able to get away with just a sprocket change. Cheers |
Change the chain too, unless it's nearly new it will knacker the new sprocket very quickly & by the sound of it it's not nearly new.

What ^^^^ says :D
To answer the question, yes, a 110 link chain will be needed if you 'up' the rear sprocket. |
If your chain is that stretched it's dangerous so best change it quick. You need the 110 link chain as previously stated.

I put a 45 sprocket on my Curvy S and left the chain. It shortens the wheelbase slightly is all, making it a bit lively.
So you don't need to change the chain, but if it's an old one then you should. |

Sorry I stand corrected. With a 46 sprocket I imagine it would be too tight. But won't that make it a bit revvy? The 45 gives it just that little bit more pep without affecting top speed especially as I ride two up all the time.

The 46 makes the bike very quick off the line, and wheelies are easy off the throttle in first. So much do I like it, that I shall consider a 47 next time around  .

Don't the nekkids come with a 110 chain anyway? I was just wondering as I will be changing to a 45 this summer, but I'll be swapping the chain aswell. Nothing wrong with either, but 12000 miles and the need for more poke dictate otherwise  I would go to 46, but I quite like the mileage I get per tank.
