Front brake caliper thread insert replaceable ?
When upgrading my brake lines with stainless steel ones I damaged the threads on both front calipers - (reason: the new Kit had the wrong bolts & I tried fitting them anyway   )
For the time being I managed to get the old bolts back in, but it's not very save since there was only little thread left... Anyway I was just wondering if it is possible to change this thread insert only ? (As it looks like it to me) or if I will have to replace the whole caliper. Thanks |
Hmmm, Brakes, A new set of calipers me thinks. However, Squid or Rictus will be a long to correct me.
Remember, if you cant do a bolt up by hand, then there is something wrong. |
On the SV, the threads are on the brake carriers are they not? So it shouldn't need whole new calipers, just the carriers themselves.
I did the exact same thing- Chewy's original kit had the wrong pitch, but they threaded up without too much difficulty. Good bolts those ;) I just used a bit of threadlock, never had any problems at all with it. |
You could try running a tap down it to clean the threads up, no sure how you'd stop any swarf getting in the caliper though.

Horthy, i think he means the banjo holes
|
The banjo holes yes.
Sorry I didn't know the correct name  |
So he does  No, those are ****ed. You might be able to make it fluid0-tight with telfon tape but personally I wouldn't :(
|
Well it's all sealed anyway. It's just that it's with the old Standard Bolts.
And it says in the instructions that you shouldn't use the standard bolts with the kit... Ah well off to ebay then. |
