4k Service

Rang round three local dealers from work this afternoon to get an idea of price. Prices ranged from £150-180. Given that according to the manual only the oil should be changed (as the filters only require inspection) I wouldn't have expected it to cost anywhere near this much or take two hours as quoted by all three. Before I wonder down to the nearest HG for their oil & filter offer, is there something obvious that I'm missing here?

The 4k service consists of:

Inspect and clean, adjust, replace or lubricate as necessary:
Air Cleaner
Spark Plugs
Fuel Line
Engine Idle speed
Throttle Cable Play
Clutch
Radiator Hoses
Drive Chain
Brakes
Brake Hose
Break Fluid
Tires

Replace:
Engine Oil (Filter stays put)

Tighten:
Chassis Bolts And Nuts

thats alot for a 4k service. look elce where it should only cost £30 for oil. and about £70 plus vat. about £120.

In fairness, I'm quite happy to service it myself if that's all the needs doing.... time is the only issue as the car needs doing as well! The only thing that would concern me is if something like valve clearances needed doing. According to the handbook they don't, but it was mentioned by one of the dealers I called.

I believe that is something that needs to be done during the 7.5k service.

15,000 for the valves.

They have to be cheeked at 7.5 as well as 14.5k.

Looking at the handbook, it is 14.5k for valve clearance and 7.5k for Throttle Valve Syncronization. What's the difference?
