Throttle mod Hairy-R compatibility

Hi All

Have been reading about people's experience with the 1/5th turn throttle mod. I see the general consensus is that an R6 thottle can be directly swapped.

I am a bit concerned however that given that I have a heated grip, well glued to the throttle tube, that this mod, may mean I damage to Oxprod heated grip (replacement cost ~£20).

I would therefore prefer the pulley diameter modification kit option (easier to fit too, I suspect?). Also, not sure I follow the wear argument I've seen posted (i.e. that the pulley dia mod would wear more quickly than the R6 direct swap) :?:

When I search for such a kit I keep finding ones that seem to specify 2000 unfaired only? E.g.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=8045320169

What is the view on whether this item would actually fit an SVS? Has anyone done this successfully? I didn't think there would be any difference between the naked and faired throttle tube arrangement.

Cheers

C.

The part number for all year/model curvy's throttle grip is the same. 57110-46E01.

It's dead easy to swap for an R6 grip and half the price of those inserts. Whichever method you use you'll still need to adjust the cable freeplay which is the only technical bit in the process.

As for the grip glue, a little goes a very long way indeed as you will no doubt find out. The way most folk attempt to remove them is to slide a slim screwdriver in the end and rotate it around the grip. Push it in a little at a time, work all the way round then in a bit more. Maybe a squirt of WD40 in there to stop it sticking again will help if it's really stuck.

anyone succeeded with the other approach?

Thanks for the reply haggis.

I'd still be interested to know if anyone has made a throttle mod using the cam adjuster, got a friend who'll be helping me with throttle cable adjustments as I'll be well out of my depth, and he is adamant that despite costing a little more, it will save a lot of hassle and risk trying to get the grip off the throttle tube....

Anyone made a successful conversion on a faired SV using the non-R6 throttle approach? (I.e. kit like Hairy-R's) ???

Thanks!
