Do bike dealers to p/x on cars?
Thinking of chopping my car in for a bike...
will a dealership do me a p/ex or will i have to go to the bother of getting rid of it myself? 2000 V reg 1.4 Clio "Alize" 5Door hatch. Parkers dodgy prices... Private Good £ 2960 Private Poor £ 2165 Part Exchange £ 2525 |
Some will, but you probably won't get a good price. Many just get a local car dealer to offer on it and give you that amount.IE peanuts.
|
They might do a p/x on it, however I reckon you would be lucky to get £2000 from them - they will have to chop it out to a car dealer, who will only give them peanuts for it
|
i thought as much... ah well. £1 and 0% perhaps... then sell the car at leisure and get a better price.
|
Is that your second car or your only car? If its your only car I reckon its probably worth more to you on your drive than the money you would get from selling it.
Keep it. |
My only car, but will be moving in with the mrs in july. My factory is next to her school so crap weather days i can catch a lift into work.
She's got a Liquid Yellow 182 (Amy R on CS - i've seen you on there) I would like to keep the car but if i can get £2500+ in a private sale it would be very nice! (seen similar models on the trader going for 3k, same milage, same year, less spec... also there are the Mk1 clios still selling for £2k so i don't think this is unrealistic to the right person) Its got an inermittant fault which might be anything (probably coil pack) and i'd feel guilty selling it to joe bloggs with that fault. but if a garage will take it i couldnt care less - hence p/ex question!! |
when it comes to part x everyone takes the pi$$!! all my mate can get for his 54plate triumph thruxton is £3700 it books at £4600 :(
|
They dont take the **** - they buy in cheap so they can sell on and make a profit!. As they are a business then thats the way it works!. If no dealer made a profit you would have to buy direct from the factories - trust me that wouldnt be very good for the customer!
anyways, some suzuki dealers are linked to suzuki car dealerships. They would take your car as P/ex. We have done as our workshop is behind a car sales place and they buy from the customer and give us the cash price. Worth looking around, other than that stick it in autotrader and see what happens. |
there's making a profit (which is business) and there's taking the pi$$.
|
so what do you reckon dealers should make?.
Consider out of the bike sales you have to cover: Salesmans wage Rent for the showroom space Rates for that proportion Vat Electricity for the showroom Insurance - we pay £8500 per year Advertising costs (MCN charge £350 for a fag packet size ad per week) Warranty Workshop costs so out of £900 initial margin you can bring it back down to £300 real profit So define taking the pi** |
