Smallest battery for a SV650 K3?!
Hi guys! 8)
Any electricians around? I'm in desperate need of a tiny motorcycle battery for my project! What's the Ampere (=A) suitable for a SV 650 K3? Anybody have knowledge of a tiny gel 12V battery, brand, e.t.c. I'm hoping to find a small and efficient one... Cheers! |
AS I understand it= and I'm just filling in space here till someone who actually knows this stuff comes along- batteries have only 3 meaningful figures, voltage, CCA and capacity (in amps and amp hours respectively). CCA is cold cranking amperage (I think) and tells you what their maximum output is to crank the engine, ie how much power the starter gets. Other than that, the battery's just a reservoir for the charging system so you don't need to worry about what it can do, as long as it's 12V.
The YT12A-BS, which is standard for the curvy, has a CCA of 175A and a capacity of 9.5Ah, while the one for the injected model is 180 and 10. I wouldn't stray far south of that- every amp you lose off the CCA makes it that much harder to start the bike. If it lives in a nice warm garage then it'd be less critical, but 175 was low enough for mine if it was in the cold all day. I use, I think, a YTZ12S, which has a CCA of 210A and a capacity of 11Ah. The difference the higher CCA makes on a really cold start is huge. With the standard battery it creaked into life, with the new one it'll start in anything. The higher capacity is good for bad starting conditions, obviously, or if you leave the bike with the side lights on, or if you've got an alarm. |
Hi -pATz-
There are some batteries Yuasa these are all Gel batteries NP7-12 (151x65x98mm) only 7Ah NP12-12 (150x97x95mm) OK with 12 AH but to big...??? or you could put two 6V in series NP10-6 (151x34x94 mm) but this 7Ah and you need two of them...hmm or Sonnenscheim gel batteries /Mats |

Will surely take a look at those pages while I'm back home (currently travelling...)! :D Gracias! |
