Showing off
I admit that I can ride like a bit of a tit at times, and as my ‘Scooby-Don’t’ post shows, I rarely need much of a catalyst to start doing so :D like I said in that, I know it isn’t big and it isn’t clever etc, but well … we all do it at times don’t we?? :D Its all part of the fun of owning a bike, especially one with a bit of grunt :)
One of my catalysts is if I see an attractive young lady … my bad?!?! :D also if I see a mate … Anyhow, why is it that when no one is watching I can hook some really cool mingers (wheelies), do some spectacular ‘backing it in’ type moves etc etc, yet as soon as I am attempting to ‘show-off’ as opposed to just tooling about for the chuckle, do I suddenly become incapable of performing such stunts to any degree of satisfaction?!?! :D Its not fair … it is also not cool when flicking up to second whilst monowheel and the bike drops out of gear into neutral and the front slams down, tackle smashing into the tank?!?! … or sometimes simply failing to ‘get it up’ in the first place??? (no sniggering at the back please :D) don’t think the ladies find that impressive at all :D Anyone else suffer this affliction?? :) |
Can't say I do...although then again I'm only just learning how to endo and wheelie (hard on 33bhp) at the moment.
You're going to get gobbled up and spat out in a rather vicious fashion in a minute by the 'safety experts'. |
You want to have a word with Big Ape about showing off.
 :P   Trying to wheelie and impress a scooter boy I believe was the occasion. Though Im more impressed that the bike only left a tiny rubber mark on the car :P    |
I think i might although its when im on my own and when im attempting to show off......the only thing i can do is a burn out i dont think my sv has enough grunt to get my 13-14 stone onto one wheel......ive seen all the how to vids but still cant manage that ellusive wheelie!
|
You are right about the ladies being unimpressed when you fail to get it up,but I doubt your wheelies have ought to do with it.

Unless you are sitting over the front, to be honest I can’t believe the front DOESN’T come up by simply cracking the throttle in 1st and waiting ‘till the torque/power kicks in … mine does … I have a 14t front sprocket now, but even with a standard 15t it used to ‘reach for the sky’ even if I did no more to encourage it than nail it in first :) I feel I ought to say that I am not trying to encourage or endorse silly behaviour here, just sharing my experiences with others :) |
to lift the front wheel I chuck the throttle right on but wimp out after a second or too... if I keep the throttle on will it come higher once it gets to 7/8k rpm?
|
I just clutch it to be honest in 1st but then again, it's hard on 33bhp. You run out of puff as soon as it's going skywards anyway.
Have thought about putting on a smaller front sprocket for fun. |

p.s. once up to near the balance point, that is when you need the throttle control to keep the angle of the dangle just right. I'd say over the 40deg odd mark and you are needing throttle control!! |
