SV 650 low bottom gear. Any SV racers?

When racing a SV how have people got round the very low bottom gear they have? As
you have to be careful as it locks the back wheel up when you go down into 1st.

Cheers Joe.

i usually only go down to 2nd and if the back still slides control it, down in to first whilst still moving at a good speed is a bit much for me.

Blip the throttle, or don't go into first going down until stopped lol

Doubt I use 1st gear when racing apart from the start, but still get a bit of a wiggle from the rear on occasion, not as bad as on me R6 last year though.

To help combat it, I have done/do the following:
Remove return throttle cable
Increase Idle to 3k rpm
Blip the throttle

I blip the throttle when going down, I just thought some one may of put a taller first gear in the gear box or somthing so it does'nt happen. As when your braking for a hairpin from speed and going down through the gears its easy to end up in first, just through using the gears to slow down. Its a bit annoying having to keep counting the gears to make sure I don't go in to 1st.

I very much doubt minitwins regs allow us to alter the gearbox from standard.

On the track I tend to go down more by what rpm I'm at and pretty much never get to the point of being in first (we'll have to see for the new chicane at Mallory though :) ).

One thing I was told last year when complaing of rear end chatter was 'well change down later then' - simple, obvious and effective :) - also works!

you could also try a slipper clutch, i think sigma may have these now for the sv but may be mistaken, I think these are also illegal in the minitwin series

They are illegal for minitwins.

Was quite tempted by one for my r6 as they have come down in price decently, but no way I could justify the expenditure really.

I think that new bit at gerrards is still being decided on, it was not in at the one meeting I went to the other weekend.
