Cam Chain

My bike has a rattle, I am 90% sure its the cam chain.

I have seen several posts on here about removing a 10mm bolt from the top of the front cylinder, inserting a small flat head screwdriver and turning clockwise until it stops. This should then sort the rattle out.

I am going to have a go tonight but have a few questions first -

Is there anything that I must watch out for, I really dont want to cause any damage?

If I carry out this job and rattle is still there meaning it has nothing to do with the cams would I of then actually created a problem/issue.

Cheers

Rob

While you're doing it, absolutely don't undo the 2 allen bolts on the side of the tensioners, or you'll create a load of work for yourself. It's fiddly to do because of the location of the frame...

I'm not aware of any downsides- if you do it with teh bike in gear and turn the wheel you'll quite possibly cause the cam chain to jump but if you avoid that then there's no real movement in the chain, so it's extremely unlikely to skip time. Some people would probably want to check the timing afterwards but I never bothered myself.

I made myself a little tool to access the front tensioner.

Just used an old screwdriver.
