Hole in petrol tank!

Hi All,

So I am just getting ready to sell my beloved 650s when I noticed a petrol leak along the left hand side of the petrol tank - after inspection by a mechanic I am informed I have a hole in my tank and he cant help.

Having spoken to my local dealer I am looking at approx £250 for a new tank (not an option due to the sale), pick up one from a breakers yard or get it repaired.

Can anyone help or advise? I have a black W reg (curvy). Does anyone know of a tank repairer in the Twickenham area (West London/Middlesex) or even a home-brew solution that may help?

Thanks in advance

Petra seal a solution you put in the tank and slosh it about - not permanent but ok to stop it for a bit??

Drain the tank, clean up the area. Araldite then sell it.

£250 for as new tank - that's very good. £325 for a new one!

Petropatch is a epoxy based putty you can get to patch holes in petrol tanks, works well, don't decay due to petrol ( i know cause i dropped 2 blobs in my tank and got them out 6 months later)

But I don't recommend it for a permanent solution cause i'd be ****ed if a brought a bodged tank

Before trying any of the above get the tank off, clean the area up and let's have a look at it. Not sure what the legality of bodging a tank before sale is but I think the buyer has to ask and you say it's fine before you coul end up in court, and most people won't ask if you've patched a tank.

I've seen a "leaky tank" that turned out to be bubbled paint letting fuel get under a seal so no bodging required, let's have a look at the dammage?

That's OK - I sold it to the guy who serviced it and damn near killed me because the forgot to fit the front calipers correctly! Got me own back!
