WANTED: A Tax Disk (So I can be a poser)
Yes, I'm in the USA
Yes, I'm a poser Now that we've gotten that out of the way  I really think the UK tax disks look pretty cool! I'd like one for my SV. Would anyone care to sell me one? It doesn't even need to be current. Let me know how much shipped to the USA (Philadelphia, 19148). If there's a particular American oddity you'd like to trade for I'd be happy to oblige. |

Got one you can have. Do you want a tax disc holder as well?. You can have that as well. Cheers Ben |

And my old battered tax disc will probly do a better job than he does anyway. But seriously, i'm curios as to why you want a tax disc. Where on the bike would you put it and why? What tall tale wold you tell the chick who says "OOhhh whats that, never seen one of those before" ??? |
Ben, thank you very much! I will need the disk and holder. I'll private message you my address, at the very least please let me know what I owe you for shipping. I'd be happy to pay you for it or send you something in return as well.
OK, I'll try to explain why I want one for you........ I was in Nice, France and Monico a couple years ago and saw a bunch of restaurants that were meant to look like American Diners. I even saw a few enormous old American cars running around. Europeans have a "thing" for American stuff and vice versa Americans have a "thing" for the Euro stuff. I also belong to a few BMW and Mercedes forums and I see Americans constantly hunting down Euro parts for there cars, like mirrors, lights and license plates. I just like the look of the tax disk and I want to be the first one in the USA to have one. I don't plan on having any fancy story to go with it, just that I liked it and some nice chap from the .org was kind hearted enought to hook me up :D I don't know where I should put it. Where do you guys mount them? I was thinking by the exhaust can... |
I put mine here-----

I've got mine scanned in case some toe rag nicks it - I can email you the .jpeg if you want - then you can go into business selling copies

I did actually look on Ebay first but could only find the holders (no actual tax disks). Would someone care to tell me what these disks are for anyway? In the USA the road tax is added to the fuel. Non engine fuels like kerosene or home heating oil are dyed red and if your caught with them you get in huge trouble (though no one ever checks cars). |
Our fuel tax (and theres plenty of it... currently 94p per litre here)...goes towards the governments wages and buying them all new cars...
no serioulsy the fuel tax is suppossed to go into the general Tax fund as far as im aware, but road tax is a tax on technically how much your vehicle damages the roads and envirnment, therefore it should go to replace and renew roads... but you wouldnt belive that if you saw the roads where i live... :D Its another way of making sure we have no money and tge governments have lots! |
We pay for our roads in several ways
Road Tax Licence (or Tax Disc) varies depending on the size of the vehicle - my car is £195 per year, bike (SV1000) is £60. 650's are £45, and scooters are £15 You don't actually need the tax disc - the government have been rolling out an online application system & also an oline database which is supposed to be linked with insurance & MOT (Ministry of Transport road test - needed every year once your vehicle gets to 3 years old, in order to test that it is roadworthy). However the old system relied on a disc that you had to display so Mr Plod could inspect it, so we've still got discs. Then we pay tax on the fuel - unleaded is around 94p per litre  Then we pay a 'stealth tax' whenever we get caught by a speed camera, of which there are now thousands - this is usually £60, and you get points on your licence as well. Get 12 points and it's bye-bye licence  And it usually rains as well  |
