own serviceing

I could be wrong but if you doyour own serviceing while the bike is under Suzuki warranty does this not INVALIDATE afore mentioned warranty. The reason i ask is ive seen threads that imply owners doing tis from the 600 mile service onward.

:? Interesting point,In the car trade, there was something called 'Block-Exemption' introduced, which basically allows car owners to choose which Garage THEY want to service/work on their cars, irrelivant of brand, and as long as the cars are serviced to 'original manufacturers' standards, they keep the warranties valid. Unsure if this includes doing your own servicing. Will find out tomorrow at work and let you know. (I work at a car dealers,SEAT unfortunately)

i dont think there is on my sv (2004) but i think nowdays there is so when/if i get a new bike i will do my own you have to be a qualified mechanic or sumit to be able!

Not quite as I understand it, the machine must be serviced according to the makers demands and at the specified intervals/mileage, but the legislation makes no requirement as to who does it.

The issue as yet - again, as I understand it - is that it hasn't as yet been tested legally, that is no-one that has has a warranty repair refused because of an issue over who performed servicing, has as yet taken a manufacturer/importer to court to establish a precendent legally. Probably only a matter of time, but it could be a while of course.

:? Yeah,I worked on one of Suzuki's cars,(Alto)it had oil leaks at crankshaft oil seal, serviced it,then the owner took it back to suzuki for the warranty work, with no quibbles. One of my mates has a corsa, under warranty, services it himself, and warranty still valid,(He is the apprentice at work,so not qualified). Will investigate further!!!! :-k

Thanks for the help still a little unclear, surely manufacturer would want to see service book stamped as proof of work done. Some clarification may be necessary.

Well I suppose it comes down to the individual situation, but if you had specific receipts for the bits and pieces needed for the service, and perhaps you had kept a log of what was done and when, this is realistically the only sort of 'evidence' that you could provide to demonstrate that the work was done.
